In continuation of my previous article, where I discussed about having a professional approach towards presenting Holiday gifts for coworkers, I further present some valuable tips and rules for office gift giving.

As a general rule, for all your coworkers, present to them the appropriate gifts which you would normally do in office, and for your closest friends, it s better to present gifts to them after working hours, away from the office.

If the coworker is your personal friend and you also see him / her outside the office, then it makes sense to give him a personalized gift, but you should do it when you are away from office. If you present gifts to you friends in office, then other coworkers might also expect the same kind of gifts from you, whereas you might be planning to present some other kind of gifts to them. So, this above mentioned point is quite important while shopping for Holiday gifts for Coworkers and Friends.

One important point to remember while presenting Holiday gifts for coworkers, is that you should not single out any of your particular coworkers to present gifts. You should plan to give gifts to all your coworkers. This will further boost your image as a professional, unbiased executive. You should present gifts to coworkers to show your appreciation, not to win any favours from them. If you genuinely want to give gifts, then, by all means do so.

Giving gifts with the intention of asking for some favour would not be appreciated by your coworkers, and instead it may harm your reputation in office.

It is pertinent to always keep in mind the likes and dislikes of the person to whom you are presenting your gifts. In a formal office environment, one must exhibit a professional approach towards work and other situations. Even if it is a special occasion / holidays, where you need to buy holiday gifts for coworkers, you need to mange the show professionally and appropriately.

Here, I present some tips, which can help you while buying holiday gifts for coworkers.

Do be Financially Conservative with your gifts budget, whenever you are buying holiday gifts for coworkers. It is not necessary to go overboard and buy expensive gifts for everyone. (Keep in mind that the gifts should not be too cheap either, they should be reasonably priced).

Moreover, in case you buy too expensive gifts for coworkers, then it might send out a signal that you also expect some expensive gifts in return, (which is not at all our purpose of giving gifts. Gifts should be given to express your affection and friendship towards your coworkers, it should not be like any business dealing).

Also, it is pertinent to remember that everybody’s salary is not the same. Those having a lesser salary than yours, might feel a little bit dejected when they come to know that a certain colleague of theirs is handing out expensive gifts for his friends whereas they are not in a position to do so. For the majority of coworkers on your list, try to buy generic gifts such a fashionable decorative gift item, food baskets, chocolate gift baskets, flowers etc.

For those coworkers with whom you are quite close and have a more stronger friendship, you can present to them more personal gifts like the Music Cd’s / apparel of their liking.

Before buying holiday gifts for coworkers in your office, is that you should always ask yourself the question first of all – “Would that person like such a gift if I presented it to him in front of the entire office”.

Conversely, before buying the gift, you should also ask yourself—“If I were to receive such a gift in front of the entire office, then would I like it ?.”

The above 2 questions would help you decide to buy the most appropriate holiday gifts for coworkers, and when you do present the gifts on the actual occasion, then such sort of self questioning will eventually help to establish your reputation as a professional, thoughtful and considerate person, and you would be liked by all of your coworkers.

As a general rule, buy holiday gifts for coworkers, only when there is a special occasion / holiday season. To explain with the help of an example, If someone was earlier coming late to the office regularly and now has started coming on time, then it simply makes no reason to give him a gift. Try to restrict your gift presentation activities for special moments / occasions. This would further help you boost your image in front of your coworkers as a professional executive.

How to Effectively Buy Holiday Gifts for Coworkers

Buying holiday gifts for coworkers can be time consuming and sometimes a difficult exercise. In this article, let us try to see how we can make this whole process efficient, inexpensive and time saving.

1) Make a List.

This is the first and the most important step while buying holiday gifts for coworkers Make an exhaustive list of all the people you are working with. In this initial list, don't exclude anyone. Initially, just concentrate on writing the names. Also, If possible, then do write alongside each person his hobbies liking etc. (It may be a tough task initially, but it would help you in the long run to purchase the most unique gift for that particular person).

2) Prioritize.

Once your initial list is ready, then decide whom do you want to give the gift. As a general rule - You should buy gifts for your immediate superiors, your close coworkers and anybody who gave you a gift last time. You may also include the people form other departments like Accounts, Administration, etc, depending upon your relationship and interaction with them.

Remember, there is no need to give a gift to everyone at the office. Such an action might not be very much appreciated, and moreover, it might also not fit into your budget.

Also, since you might not know all the people personally / properly, So, it might be a little bit awkward situation presenting a gift to an unknown person.

Just Try to limit yourself to coworkers whom you know personally.

3) Once you have your priorities set, then decide upon your Budget for each prioritized list of coworkers.

Obviously, you have to make a budget, You don't want to overspend on giving the gifts, ( as the gifts may vary from being inexpensive to expensive). The value and the type of gift should correspond to your relationship and closeness with your coworker.

4) Decide upon what to give to each person.

This is related with point no. 1 , wherein I had mentioned to note down the likes, hobbies etc. of each person you know. this will help you decide the most unique and also inexpensive holiday gifts for coworkers .

5) To save time on buying gifts, mark out a day and a particular time on that day in your calendar to go out shopping.

You can choose a holiday / weekend, but preferably, set the time of visiting the store in the afternoon, because then the stores will not be too much overcrowded.

6) Don't forget the Greeting Cards.

Try to buy them at the same store where you are buying the other gifts. This would save a lot of time for you and would also prove to be in inexpensive way of shopping as you won’t have to go from one shop to another to buy just the cards. Usually, if you are buying a lot of stuff from one store, then they might give a give discount on the items as well as on the greeting cards.

Personalized Greeting Cards would add a special touch to your holiday gifts for coworkers

Just an inexpensive card on which is written "Best Compliments" can be sufficient. However, you may go in for different types of greeting cards if you wish and if you time and budget allows it.

7) Select the shops where gift wrap packing would be done easily,

This is quite essential, so that you do not have to do it yourself when you reach home. This would prove to be an inexpensive as well as a time saving option, as compared to the situation, where you buy the gifts from one store, then go to another store to buy the wrapping paper, cello tape etc. then going home and gift wrapping the gifts yourself.

8) Now you are ready with your gifts to present further to your coworkers.
